Decree

The decree passed by the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region on 25 September 1997 establishing the extent of the mission entrusted to the Brussels Region IT Centre and the rates for the services provided in the context of the provision of INTERNET to the public authorities asks the Centre to officially represent the Region on the web. In this context, it is recognised by the Government as the only regional public body to provide INTERNET access upon which the regional and local public authorities of the Brussels-Capital region can call1.

The ministerial decree of 9 May 2000 charged the Centre with the task of:

• managing and monitoring the framework agreement aimed at providing telecommunications services (IRISnet network) for public administrative entities established in the Region;
• ensuring, on behalf of Government, compliance with the general interest imperatives in the field of telecommunication;
• undertaking, on behalf of the Government, the role of services centre in the context of the broadband network for institutions referred to in the framework agreement.
