The electronic counter IRISbox

IRISbox is the electronic counter web platform forming the pillar of  online services in and around Brussels both locally and regionally.

For you, The IRISbox public services now makes many existing services available online and at the disposal of you, the users (individuals, agents, Occupational professionals, businesses and other government authorities) to consult documents or to access or complete online procedures (or application forms).

IRISbox works by using an electronic identity card (eID) for authentication together with a digital signature. In addition, this service also includes an online payment facility (Ogone).

Accessible via the web address: http://www.irisbox.irisnet.be, IRISbox is used particularly by the municipalities in and around Brussels supporting the ever-growing online demand for civil and state records such as population, roads/refuse collection to mention a few...

The electronic counter IRISbox public services for you,

The electronic counter IRISbox is the interactive tool that allows any public office to issue and publish documents online for further use (by idividuals, organisations, enterprises or for administrative purposes).

With IRISbox, this data exchange can be done using one of two possible modes :

  • By means of publication: a document is issued by the administrating office in the form of a (PDF), that can be downloaded by the users, who then need to identify themselves with the help of their eID;
  • For other transactions: when the administration concerns an online application for a document (eg. extract of birth certificate) or services such as access to a database, the applicants identify themselves using their eID.

Electronic identity cards are also used to identify and authorise access for administrators using IRISbox.

With IRISBOX and a correctly configured computer, means no longer being tied to rigid opening hours, and the freedom to move or access files...

The virtual office stands out for its ease of use and is both secure and completely confidential. The monitoring process is clear and consise thanks to a customised dashboard ( "My Box"). It also allows users to interrupt a process and resume later.

IRISbox is compatible with the most commonly used operating systems such as: Windows, Mac and Linux. In addition to a broadband connection, using IRISbox requires  an activated eID and reader as well as the necessary operating software. A configuration tester is provided on the IRISbox homepage that identifies any missing software needed to successfully run IRISbox .

Although as a platform, IRISbox is predominantly used as an electronic counter by residents for accessing municipal services, it is also used by professionals for other public services in Brussels.

Communes:

  • Mode of transaction:

The  majority of communes in Brussels opted for IRISbox as an alternative virtual office for their town hall. Residents identifying themselves with their eID, can request documents via IRISbox for instance : marital status, populus, roads & refuse collection...  as well as

  • the extracts of birth, marriage, divorce, death certificates or criminal records;
  • the certificates of residence, nationality, members of household ;
  • the permission to view, maps of waterfront/mooring locations...

The requests for documents are made "off line" by the municipal authorities and are then forwarded by post.

Each municipality determines the variety of documents that will be available using the application IRISbox and the applicable fee (including the terms and conditions for issuing documents free of charge).

  • Several municipalities in Brussels also use the IRISbox publication portal, making  documents such as agendas or the penal fines of the council or committee available (with a possibly restricted access).
